Las Vegas Rumors: Sahara

Another large hotel and casino on the strip may be up for sale. The property this time is the Sahara on the north end of the strip. The property is large and is the last stop on the monorail across the street from Circus Circus. A Sahara spokesperson said offers come in regularly although no deal has been made. The rumored front runners are said to be George Clooneys intervestor friends called Related Cos and Turnberry Associates the developers in the planned Fontainebleau project on the site of the old El Rancho. Related has denied interest and Turnberry hasn't commented but my guess is that the Saraha will be sold soon because as MGM Mirage and Harrahs buy up property on the strip the number of independent large properties on the strip gets less and less. Plus with the recent surge in high rise condo developments it makes sense for large properties on the strip to be redeveloped in to mixed use properties.
