Pamela Anderson is to be the assistant for magician Hans Klok in the new show "The Beauty Of Magic" at the new Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino on the strip. The 39 year old ex Baywatch beauty replaces Carmen Electra who recently dropped out of the show before it opened. Because Pamela Anderson needs to get ready for the show the grand opening is being pushed back to June 2nd.

MTV's "Video Music Awards" Coming To LV

Moneysaver: Staying At Off Strip Properties

One way to save money on hotel rooms is to stay at a hotel property off the strip. If you are driving in to Las Vegas and want to save money this is a good option as the prices are lower than the strip properties. By staying at these smaller properties off strip you also have the advantages of getting to your room quicker and not having to deal with the traffic problems with some strip properties. If you are not driving in to Las Vegas its still possible to stay at some of these properties to save money but be careful with your choice. Taxi rides back and forth from the strip can add up and also even though a property only looks a block from the strip that block can be a long walk. Hotels such as the Rio and Gold Coast are a block from the strip but in between is a real busy on ramp and off ramp from the interstate which is dangerous to cross. If you want to stay at one of off strip properties without a car look for one that operates a free shuttle service to the strip; Some of these properties also offer shuttle services to the airport, but routes and times are always subject to change. Some of these shuttles that have been running for years include properties such as The Hard Rock, Rio, Gold Coast, Orleans and Showboat. The shuttle for the Showboat stops at several properties on the strip as well as downtown but one note about this shuttle is they sometimes ask for a Las Vegas hotel key or your check in confirmation at the Showboat. I guess this is to stop locals from using this extensive shuttle as free transportation around town.

Las Vegas In 1985

This is a picture i took in downtown Las Vegas in 1985 in front of Fitzgerald's Hotel and Casino. This was back when you could drive down Fremont Street as you can see by the taxi stand. The front of this hotel now is a lot sleeker than it was then and the luck of the Irish theme has been toned down; Also notice the picketers out front which happened a lot in the 80's.

Macau Revenues Now Higher Than Las Vegas

The former Portuguese colony of Macau which was returned to the Chinese is a gambling hotbed. The revenues of the casinos in Macau totaled $6.95 billion for 2006 which beat the Strips predicted revenue of $6.5 billion for 2006. Las Vegas legends Steve Wynn and Sheldon Adelson both have large properties in Macau competing with Chinese tycoon Stanley Ho. Macau will siphon off some Asian gamblers which will hurt certain properties in Las Vegas a bit but in the long run Las Vegas will do fine.

New Years Eve On Fremont Street

This New Years Eve the entire four blocks of the Fremont Street Experience will be blocked off for a ticket only event. The event will be broadcast live on Direct TV as part of its music performance show CD USA. The tickets cost $80 per person and includes a line up of music by bands including Rockstar SuperNova, Smash Mouth, All American Rejects and Chicago. Stages will be located at both ends of the Fremont Street Experience and outdoor bars as well as other vendors which will be there as well.

Christmas Week Ideal Time For Cheap Rooms

One of the cheapest times of the year to visit Las Vegas is the week between Christmas and New Years. Especially right after Christmas, Las Vegas is really quiet and thats the best time to get cheap rooms. Often I have stayed downtown or off strip for really cheap at this time and received flyer's under my door from the property offering additional nights stay for $19 or even $10 per night. Just make sure you are gone by New Years Eve because the rates go through the roof for the same room as the New Years party crowd arrives.

Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman kicks off the annual "Holiday Festival" tomorrow night with the lighting of the 50' Christmas tree on Fremont Street. Las Vegas at Christmas is a little strange but if you are in the downtown area its worth checking out.

Las Vegas Monorail Ambassadors

The Las Vegas Monorail which I have reviewed on this site before is still struggling to get passengers and has about 19,000 daily which is about half the number it needs to break even. If you are on the side of the strip from MGM to the Sahara I still recommend using the monorail although the resent raise in fares from $3 to $5 per trip makes it less desirable. To improve the sagging ridership the monorail has hired 20 very attractive women in old style flight attendant outfits to hand out monorail guides. The outfits are kind of like the ones you see in the Britney Spears video "Toxic." The girls are there to remind people that the monorail exists although I cannot see it is going to boost ridership. The monorail is only useful for one side of the Strip and the there are many options to travel down the Strip and the monorail is also getting expensive.

Year End Great Time To Get Good Room Rates

The end of the year is one of the best times to get great deals on rooms in Las Vegas. Apart from the peak times of Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years the rest of November and December are slow so its a great time to save money on your trip. Most of the hotels have packages where they throw in things like free buffets, drinks or show tickets to make you visit. Las Vegas at the end of the year can get chilly especially at night and not all the pools are open but its still warmer than most of the country. Check out the hotel websites for deals and packages and you can save even more if you can be flexible with your days.

Free Show: Sirens Of TI

The Sirens Of TI is a show on the strip in front of TI. TI is the new name of Treasure Island which used to have a pirate theme which is pretty much gone now. Las Vegas tried to be a family resort before it switched to the current theme of "what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas" and because of the more adult theme they replaced the pirate battle with the Sirens Of Ti. The former show was lots of fun as the pirates fought and sunk the Royal Navy each several times each night. The current show has women trying to seduce the pirates in to crashing on the rocks. The show is sappy and even though im not opposed to scantily clad women the show is only okay.

Watch Ice Hockey In The Desert

Okay when you think of Las Vegas probably ice hockey isn't the first think that comes to mind but Las Vegas does have a hockey team. The team is called "The Las Vegas Wranglers" and plays its home games at the Orleans Arena which is located at the Orleans which is a hotel and casino just off the strip. The team is an affiliate of the NHL's Calgary Flames and plays in the Pacific Division of the ECHL. If you want a break from gambling and shopping this is an interesting alternative. Free Show: Circus Acts at Circus Circus

Every day from 11am to Midnight above the midway at Circus Circus on the north end of the strip are free shows of circus acts.The acts are usually acrobats,clowns or tightrope walkers. If you are staying down that end of the strip it might be worth you seeing but i don't know if i would make a trip just to see it unless maybe you had kids with you.The only clown i want to see is Krusty the Clown on the Simpsons but thats just me.

This years event is a fund raiser for Hurricane Katrina relief and is being held on the final night of the popular "Comedy Festival." David Hasselhoff To Be In "The Producers" At Paris

David Hasselhoff the former star of Bay watch and Knight Rider will be in the Broadway show "The Producers" when it opens at the Paris on January 31st. David will play the part of Roger DeBris in the Mel Brooks show. David had previously stared in the Broadway shows "Jekyll & Hyde" and also "Chicago." Broadway shows generally have had a hard time in Las Vegas but "Phantom Of The Opera" and "Spamalot" more recent Broadway shows have fared better so it will be interesting to see who "The Producers" will do.

Smoking In Las Vegas

In most of the country lighting a cigarette in public is getting harder and harder especially in California where I am from. In Las Vegas if you are a smoker you can do it just about anywhere even in a restaurant where they have smoking and non smoking sections. You can smoke in the casinos although a some have non smoking sections which are usually small and in the back of the casinos. One of the few places you cannot smoke in public is at the airport except in designated areas which are usually glass boxes in the terminals. I don't smoke and have never really been bothered by it in Las Vegas, but if it does bother you i might suggest the larger casinos on the strip that have high ceilings and good air conditioning. Older casinos and downtown casinos generally have lower ceilings so I wouldn't suggest them if you are sensitive to smoke. Most hotels offer non smoking rooms and will give you that option when you book, if not ask.

Las Vegas Hilton To Be Imploded?

The Las Vegas Review newspaper recently wrote a story that a major hotel casino will be imploded in the next 12-18 months and not one that has been mentioned before. The newspaper thinks it will be the Las Vegas Hilton. This makes sense to me as the property is a large lot right next to the convention center and is an older property. The Las Vegas Hilton recently finished a remodel of its rooms and lobby although in Las Vegas that wouldn't make any difference on whether or not its imploded. The Las Vegas Hilton used to be called The International and was made famous because Elvis used to perform there. I have stayed at the Las Vegas Hilton many times over the years and I would miss it. It is a self contained resort with a huge casino that still has a huge selection of table games and isn't all neon and is very pleasant to gamble at. The sports book is huge and the buffet is good value and I hope to stay there again soon.

The gift shops in most hotels are conveniant but can be expensive. Another option is drug stores there is a CVS on south end of the strip and a Walgreens on the north end of the strip as well as a Walgreens downtown on one end of Fremont Street. These are good places to get film,water,soda,snacks without paying the higher prices in the hotels. They also have one hour photo developing and sell the usual Las Vegas stuff that the gift shops have for less money.

The Planetarium

If you want to get away from the Strip and the neon for a while may I suggest a visit to the Planetarium. The Planetarium is located on the campus of the Cheyenne location of the Community Campus of Southern Nevada. People have commented or emailed me asking for things to do with the family in Las Vegas and this is one option. Its your standard Planetarium with displays of current and past space programs as well as two celestial shows shown on the domed screen of the Planetarium. They also have a gift shop with model rockets, posters, star charts, spaces pens and the like. There are two shows on Friday and two on Saturday with addmission $5 for adults and $3 for kids and seniors a real bargain. After the late shows on both days the telescopes at the student observatory are available for viewing as long as the weather is clear.

What To With The Kids

Okay I get asked all the time what to do with the kids when in Las Vegas and my answer always is to leave them at home. Okay now I have offended all parents I will give you the reason why I suggest this. If you were not in Las Vegas would you expose your kids to gambling, smoking, drinking, sexy suggestive clothes and stripper ads on taxis and flyers; the answer to this would probally be no so why do this in Las Vegas? Having to explain to a young kid what a dancer to your room or what an escort does is not a coversation I want to have with a kid. If you want to gamble, drink or see shows the kids are going to be in the way, although you could leave them in your room or playing with the ice machine because that always works out so well (i was joking not a good idea). Okay if you insist on bringing your kids to Las Vegas there are options and things to keep them amused and I will share them in upcoming postings. In the corner of each kid friendly attraction i will put a logo of a kids face.

Quick Tip: Getting Taxi's

Okay this is not New York you cannot walk out in the street and hail a cab like in "Sex and the City" to stop, in fact they are not allowed to pick people up off the street. Instead go to the entrance of any major hotel and there will be a taxi rack and if there isn't a taxi there, the doorman will call one for you.

The Deuce Double Deckers Down The Strip

The double decker buses running up and down the Strip are called The Deuce and they run about every 7 to 15 minutes each direction 24 hours a day. The buses start at either the Downtown Transportation Center or from the South Strip Transfer Terminal and then travel the length of the Strip before going back. The gold color new buses are easy to spot and there is bus stops every block and close to most major properties. The fare is $2 one way or $5 for a 24 hour pass which is a good bargain and also is valid on all other bus routes. You pay the fare in a box on the bus or at ticket machines at some stops. If you are staying at a major hotel on the Strip or even Downtown this is a good inexpensive option to get around as long as you don't mind public transportation. With the Monorail raising its prices this is a good less expensive option although at peak times the buses can be standing room only.

"The Drive" From GM At The Sahara

"The Drive" is kind of a unique experience from General Motors that is located behind the Sahara. GM has set up two test tracks and for $10 you get to test drive some of the latest GM products. One track is a half mile oval and the other track is an off road course. On the oval you get to drive products such as Corvettes, Cadillacs and GTO's and on the nearby off road track you get to drive a Hummer. Its a fun inexpensive experience and worth a visit, its cool to get to drive cars that you may never get a chance to outside of here. To drive you have to have a valid license and be at least 18 and must take a breathalyzer test so no cocktails before you go.

Free Show: Fountains At Bellagio

A huge water show that is in front of the Bellagio. You may have seen fountain shows before but nothing on this scale. The thousand jets of water shoot up in to the air up to 245 feet dancing all to a musical score. One note huge crowds gather for this so get there early. The show runs every weekday from 3-7pm every thirty minutes and every fifthteen minutes from 7pm to midnight. On the weekends the shows start at noon. I had a friend visit and he lost his phone in the fountain so if you find it email me lol. The show changes fairly often but i still prefer the vegas entertainers music such as Elvis and i have included a clip from the Elvis version.

Saving Money On Buffets

Okay they days of the $2.99 all you can eat buffets in Las Vegas are for the most part gone, but you can still eat well without breaking the bank. Most of the big fancy hotels on the Strip like the Paris, Bellagio, MGM and the Mirage and the like have real fancy buffets with a huge selection of unusual items from around the world. These buffets are great and i would suggest you have one at least once during your trip. But most of the time you just want to eat and get back to gambling or shopping or whatever you plan to do. In general buffets in older, smaller or off strip properties are less expensive and may not have the selection but the food is usually pretty good. The prices in buffets get more expensive generally as the day goes on so breakfast is usually cheapest and then lunch is a little more with dinner being the most expensive. Because Las Vegas is a twenty four hour town if you are out at weird hours and eat then you can save money. Most buffets don't close between sittings so if you show up just before breakfast ends and they start switching over to the lunch items you can eat the lunch items for the breakfast price and the same often works between lunch and dinner. Most hotels offer Seafood or Steak nights or Champagne Brunch, during these times the price of the buffets can raise a lot so if you want to save money you may want to avoid these times. Discount coupons for buffets can oftend be found in the show guides in your room or hotel or in the Las Vegas Newspapers as well as in funbooks when you sign up for slot clubs. If you are playing a table game and betting for a while ask the pit boss for a comp for the buffet it doesn't hurt and quite often they will give you one or at least a discount to it.

Transportatation: The Monorail

Traffic on the strip is bad and at peak times can be a parking lot, one alternative is the Las Vegas Monorail. Soon after it openned it was closed for many months but is now reopened. The route of the monorail is on the back side of many of the large hotels on one side of the strip. It runs from the MGM Grand to the Saraha with stops also at Paris/Ballys,Flamingo,Harrahs/Imperial Palace,Convention Center and the Las Vegas Hilton. Because its behind most of the properties the stations for most are at the back of the hotels. Recently the monorail raised their fares and to me they seem a little steep but i will still use it. The fare is $5 for one way or $9 for a two ride pass and the $10 all day pass is now $15 or $35 for ten rides or $40 for a three day pass.You buy the tickets at machines on the station platforms or in some casinos it runs from 7am to 2am and runs till 3am on Friday thru Sundays. Trains arrive and depart every few minutes with more at peak times. I use it often because it is air conditioned and fairly quick although with the 3 day pass going from $25 to $40 i may use it less now. It was privately funded and they originally talked about extending it to downtown as well as to Mc Carren Airport but either is probally years off. I like staying at the Las Vegas Hilton which is off the strip by the convention center which was a drawback because you would have to take a taxi to the strip but now with the monorail it makes it a lot more conveniant.

Rita Rudner Show Ends At New York New York

Rita Rudner ends her five year contract at the New York New York in June of this year. The showroom that she is performing in is being turned in to a nightclub. Rita has said that she will return this fall at another property in town so fans will be happy. I haven't seen this show yet although i hope to before it closes, because it has been getting rave reviews.

New Shows Downtown

Downtown is not known for having many shows but the Plaza on one end of Fremont Street has been having shows for many years. Recently John Stuarts "Ovation" has moved from the Lady Luck and Curtis Adams "Adrenaline- Magic That Rocks have also opened. Generally the showrooms downtown are on the smaller side and the shows are less elaborate than on the strip but also the prices generally are cheaper so they can be a good deal.

Double Decker Buses On Strip

The new double decker buses that are now running up and down on the strip are a great way to travel. The fare from downtown down the strip is only $2 and they run every 5 to 10 minutes or so 24 hours a day and seven days a week. I grew up in England and love the double decker buses, plus from the top deck they are a great place to see the sights.

Hotel Review: Four Queens

The Four Queens is located downtown on Fremont Street and is one of the last remnants of old time Las Vegas. I have stayed here many times over the years and enjoy this place. It has had many owners over recent years and is a little worn in places. You may not get all the features of a strip hotel but what you do get is resonable priced rooms, player friendly rules on card games, friendly service, a really good coffee shop, a good gourmet room and easy access to Fremont Street. The hotel has two towers one is right on Fremont Street at check in they ask you which tower because the one on Fremont Street is noisy because of the Fremont Street Experiance. I usually stay in this tower because the noise doesn't disturb me and i like taking the elevator down and being right on Fremont Street. The brew pub is small but the service is good and you can get really good bar food especially the crab cakes. Next to the brew pub is Magnolia Coffee Shop which is one of the best in town and overlooks the casino. Below Magnolia's is Hugo's Cellar which in my opinion is one of the two best gourmet rooms in town and is very romantic setting for a meal. On the table games they have things such as single deck blackjack which are getting harder to find. One note on the table games if you need to take a restroom break it is a little ways from the tables. I met the owners recently and they asked if there was anything i would like to see and i told them i missed the lounge that they used to have and, he said they were trying to bring music back. If you want to stay downtown and are okay with the fact this place doesn't have things like a pool this is a good choice. I stay here often and may stay here again on my next visit. (800) 634-6045

Gondola Rides At The Venetian

Okay this a strange attraction its gondola rides like in Venice but this time the canals run through the middle of a shopping mall at the Venetian. The ride snakes through the mall including going outside briefly and then back. The gondoliers sometimes break in to song while you glide down the canals. Its a fairly long ride for the price and it is a different change of pace although if the view wasn't just a mall it may be more interesting. Where you buy your tickets they have a small gift shop selling gondola related merchandise. It is open most of the time the mall is although it closes down about 15 minutes before the mall does. At the Desert Passage Mall at the Aladdin which is changing its name to Planet Hollywood they have a free attraction which is pretty cool; The attraction is a rain storm with loud thunder and also has a sky of lightning in the Merchants Harbor area of the mall. Okay the Adventuredome at Circus Circus is a five acre indoor theme park. It was built when Las Vegas tried to be family friendly but even though Las Vegas is marketing to adults again the park is still open. The park has a roller coaster, boat ride, IMAX simulator and an underwater Sponge Bob Square Pants ride. Most of the rides are pretty tame and if you are bringing your kids they would enjoy it. I don't visit Circus Circus too often or the Adventuredome because it has two things i don't want to see in Las Vegas kids and clowns. Attraction Review: Gameworks

Gameworks a huge arcade located in the Showcase Mall which is just north of the MGM Grand on the strip. Gameworks is probally like no arcade you have ever been to before some of the games were even designed by Steven Spielbergs Dreamworks company. It is 47,000 square feet of more than 250 games of many types from your basic games to new and high tech games some of which are more like rides than just games. There are also games such as air hocky and pool. Next to the games is a huge free standing rock climbing wall. Also here is a full service restaurant and bar as well as two snack bars. This is a fun place to go to although one drawback is it can get a little pricey but often they offer all day passes for $35. To use the machines you buy cards which means you don't have to carry around quarters. Its fun and if you have time i would suggest a visit. This was the first of the strip side attractions and is still worth a visit. The volcano is right in front of the Mirage on a little lake of cascading waterfalls. Every fifthteen minutes from dusk to midnight it erupts with flowing lava. Its very clever and well done and worth a visit. Get here a little early because it still attracts a good crowd. MGM recently announced that they are going to improve the effects which is great.

Traffic on the strip is bad and at peak times can be a parking lot, one alternative is the Las Vegas Monorail. Soon after it openned it was closed for many months but is now reopened. The route of the monorail is on the back side of many of the large hotels on one side of the strip. It runs from the MGM Grand to the Saraha with stops also at Paris/Ballys, Flamingo, Harrahs/Imperial Palace, Convention Center and the Las Vegas Hilton. Because its behind most of the properties the stations for most are at the back of the hotels. The fare is $3 for one way or $10 for a day pass or $20 for ten rides or $25 for a three day pass.You buy the tickets at machines on the station platforms or in some casinos it runs daily from 7am to 2am. Trains arrive and depart every few minutes with more at peak times. I use it often because it is air conditioned fairly quick and cheaper than taking taxis. It was privately funded and they originally talked about extending it to downtown as well as to Mc Carren Airport but either is probally years off. I like staying at the Las Vegas Hilton which is off the strip by the convention center which was a drawback because you would have to take a taxi to the strip but now with the monorail it makes it a lot more conveniant.

With the Westwood Ho closing November 17th i probally won't be able to but will probally live longer because of it lol.

Casino Review: Mermaids

This is a picture i took of Mermaids casino downtown on Fremont Street. This is a small slot casino with no table games or hotel. Out front is usually two girls with Carmen Miranda style headresses shouting for people to come in; Sometimes an Elvis impersonator joins them, you can take pictures with them but there main job is to try to get you in to the casino. I must tell you the slots in here i real tight and i have never seen people win much. My suggestion if you go in this casino is to go right through to the back of the casino where they have a small bar that has cheap beer specials and deep fried twinkes and oreos if you are feeling daring.

Transportation: Free Shuttle To Strip

A free shuttle operates between Orleans,Gold Coast,Sun Coast to the Barbary Coast on the middle of the strip. You don't have to be a guest of one of these properties but its a good way to get to the strip for free if you are staying at one of these properties. The shuttle runs often and if you are staying at the Rio or The Palms its easy to pick up the shuttle next door at the Gold Coast and take it to Barbary Coast on the strip. By doing this you save on cab fare and walking from the Rio or Palms to the strip even though its not that far you have to walk across two freeway onramp entrances which is not the safest thing to do. Also before you get on the shuttle check the sign on the front to make sure its going the right direction.

Horseshoe Sign Now Gone

This is a photo i took earlier this year of one end of what was then Binions Horseshoe. When Harrahs resold the casino they took the Horseshoe name with them as well as the World Series Of Poker which had always been held here. Because Harrahs took the name the signature Horseshoe signage was removed and now in this spot the is just a big space showing brick where the sign used to be. The casino now called just Binions is now rumored to be in trouble financially if that is true it would explain why they haven't fixed the signage.

Block Party Next To Flamingo On Nov 5th

The Flamingo and Harrahs are going to hold a block party on November 5th between the Flamingo and O' Shea's. The event in celebration of the Pro Bull Riders World Finals taking place at the Thomas & Mack Convention Center will go on from noon to 4pm. During that time you will be able to meet riders from the PBR Tour and be able to listen to live music and have drinks and eat BBQ food. Most of these places open at noon and sell tickets for that nights shows at usually up to half off. The availability of shows varies everyday. Usually you won't find tickets for the hottest shows but you will find a large selection. They usually have a scrolling board that has tickets available and the price per ticket. The best thing is to bring one of the free show guides with you to look up the shows. These ticket locations are located up and down the strip. If you are looking for a particular show try these ticket booths as well as the hotel box office where the show is playing. One tip is to avoid the ticket booths set up in hotel lobbies or shopping areas because these places tack on a service charge on the price of the ticket.

If you are staying at the MGM Grand you can now check in to the hotel right at Mc Carran Airport which is a good thing because lines at the MGM Grand can get long at check in time. The check in desk is in the south baggage claim area across from carousels 1 and 2 across from the esculators. Attraction Review: Guinness World Of Records

The Guinness World Of Records Museum is located on the north end of the strip just past Circus Circus. The museum basically has exhibits from the best selling books of the same name. It showcase weird things and things people do to get in the book. One such exhibit is Louise the Magnet Lady with her large Guinness record collection of magnets. At the Riviera on the strip is a Neil Diamond impersonater named Jay White. The show is getting good reviews and even Neil Diamond has said Jay is his best impersonator The show runs from Sunday to Thursday at 7pm with tickets going for $49.95 plus tax and fees or $10 more for VIP seating. To me Neil Diamond music is okay but i couldn't see spending $50 to see the real Neil Diamond but if you are a fan it may be worth a visit.

Ride Review: Manhattan Express At NY NY

The Manhattan Express roller coaster at New York, New York runs along the front of the strip the facade and around the resorts perimeter. The fact that this runs through the facade of the hotel is lots better than the fake roller coaster at the soon to be closed Boardwalk. Okay first off i must say that im not a big roller coaster fan but this one is very good but the rides a little on the rough side. Its open from 10:30 am to midnight daily and admission is $12.50 which is expensive for one ride although that doesn't seem to stop the lines for it. On the signs at the stop it says you need a room key to ride the shuttle but it doesn't give any more information, its probally any room key because they don't want locals riding the shuttle but you may want to check with them first. Some of my friends love Sams Town but to me if im staying downtown or on the strip there isn't really a big enough reason to go off the strip to another casino.

Free Attraction: CBS Televison City

The CBS Television City Research Center is a free but strange attraction located inside the MGM Grand. They showcase CBS shows as well as shows from the Viacom networks like MTV: You get to see shows pilots and other stuff before its been aired and then you complete a touch screen survey about what you have just seen. You are also invited to join the entertainment panel and complete online surveys from home. To me this is weird going all the way to Las Vegas and then sitting in front of a television so they get information on what shows you like and don't like. You could end up sitting and watching a show like Survivor or CSI or you could be forced to watch a really terrible pilot show. This doesn't sound fun to me but if it does to you screenings begin at 10am to usually around 9pm. A note some of the shows may not be suitable for children. The Flamingo which is on the center strip in Las Vegas has a very nice free attraction. The Flamingo was also known for having a good pool but now it also has a wildlife habitat. The habitat has Flamingo's of course but it also has African Penguins, Mute and Black Nosed Swans as well as a African Crane, Water Turtles, Mallard Ducks and Hummingbirds. Its kind of a little exotic oasis on the strip and worth a visit and is located at the back of the hotel near the monorail station. The attraction is open daily 24 hours a day.

I Think The Casino Cheated Me

Okay i had a couple of people ask if some of the games in Las Vegas are rigged. The answer is a no definitely not. All games are regulated by the gaming board and if they did cheat they would lose their gaming license which is worth far too much money. Also they have no need to cheat the games are set up so the odds are in the houses favor. The players odds are better at some games like blackjack or craps and much worse on others such as keno or big spin for example. Even a bet on say red on roulette isn't a 50% chance of winning because most wheels have 0 and 00 which are green which lowers your odds. The casinos keep a certain percentage of all money because of the way the games are set up. Steve Wynn recently said on CNBC that his casinos percentage of what is bet is roughly 20 percent and his job is to just get more people through the door. When you gamble it should be fun the games are fair but it is a gamble sometimes you win sometimes you lose but have fun.

Bonanza which bills itself as the World's Largest Gift Shop is located across the street from the Sahara on the north end of the strip. If its the world's largest gift shop or not i don't know but it is the biggest in Las Vegas. Its basically a whole strip mall which is one L shaped gift store. They carry everything the other smaller stores carry and then some things they don't. The prices are better than the hotel gift stores and seem about the same as the small gift stores although with a better selection. Because of its location near the Sahara and the monorail it makes it an easy place to visit and is open daily to midnight.

Gourmet Rooms Are They Worth It?

A lot of the hotel-casinos especially on the strip have something called a gourmet room. This is basically a fancy restaurant where most often the meal has many courses and very good service. The food is usually of the highest quality and mostly very good. One thing that comes with this is high prices and when i say high i mean really high. Basically most hotels use these rooms to comp there high end players and anybody else that is willing to pay these prices all the better for them. Generally i skip these rooms because of the price to me it seems a waste just for a meal i would rather use the money for several meals at Mesa Grill in Ceasars Palace instead for example. I do have two exceptions there is two gourmet rooms i would go to one is the Micheal's in the Barbary Coast and the other is Hugo's Cellar which is downtown in the Four Queens.

The Chicago Brewing Company is a small brew pub located in the Four Queens downtown. It is in one corner over the casino next to Magnolia's Veranda which is a good coffee shop. The brew pub is a liitle on the small side but its quiet and the service is real friendly. They have the usual good micro brews as well as sample trays where you can taste their many types of beer on tap. Apart from the good beer they also have a very good appetizer and personal pizza selection. The chicken wings and quesadillas are good but the Maryland style crab cakes are really good and worth a try. If you are downtown and want to take a break, you couldn't go wrong by having a micro brew and a good appetizer and resting here. Open for lunch and dinner from 11:30am to 1:30am daily.

Free Show: Lion Habitat At MGM Grand

The Lion Habitat at MGM Grand is a room surrounded by thirty five foot tall glass panels. Inside the room the Lions sleep eat or play on the ground or above the people on walkways. The habitat has four waterfalls and a pond surrounded by Acacia trees. It isn't much different than what you might see at a zoo but its nice to see and it fits in to the MGM lion theme and also its free. Next to the exhibit is a shop selling lion stuff and cuddly toys. The crowds can get big at times especially at 9am or 10am when it opens but its open to 10pm so you might want to visit it at an off peak time. Free Attraction: ESPN Zone Art Collection

Okay the ESPN Zone in the New York New York and art sounds a weird mix i agree. If you haven't been to an ESPN Zone which is named after the cable sport network it is basically a fancy sports bar with lots of televisions showing sports and a pretty large arcade area. The food is actually very good and its a nice place to hang out. Okay back to the art which is sports themed of course and located throughout the ESPN Zone restaurant. They have many displays some of the notable are on Evil Knievel and a statue of Los Angeles Golden Boy Oscar Del La Hoya as well as a neon framed Las Vegas resident Andre Agassi. The museum is open the same hours as the restaurants which vary although usually up to at least 12:30 am. (702)933-3776
